Experience how pop-up ads work at Facebook Japan and Daikanyama T-SITE-Shibuya Keizai Shimbun

Meta’s Japanese subsidiary “Facebook Japan” (Minato Ward), which handles SNS services such as Facebook and Instagram, will hold a pop-up event from January 27 to 29 to promote the mechanism of personalized advertising. Opened “Meta Bookstore” at “Daikanyama T-SITE” (Sarugakucho, Shibuya-ku).

Book card with original design to be presented

This event will be held in conjunction with “Data Privacy Day” (January 28), an international initiative to stimulate discussion on respect for privacy and securing trust in data protection. We will focus on “personalized ads” that predict and display individual interests based on keywords, maps, location information, etc. that users have searched in the past.

The venue is “Daikanyama T-SITE GARDEN GALLERY” in the same facility. The venue is decorated with the event’s original graphic “BOOK” characters, and chairs and tables are prepared. Visitors access the special site with their own smartphones and answer questions about the categories of interest they see on Facebook and Instagram, and the types of books they want to read, such as bestsellers.

Based on the responses, the website suggests a book to recommend. All books were selected by the concierge of Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore, and 24 books, including art-related books and novels, will be prepared on the spot. The staff will also explain functions such as “advertising topics” that allow you to set topics that you are not interested in. By experiencing how advertising works, the purpose is to learn “how to use SNS wisely while managing privacy” (the company).

The event will be held from 13:00 to 20:00 on the 27th, from 10:00 to 20:00 on the 28th, and from 10:00 to 18:00 on the 29th. free. After the experience, you will receive a book card (500 yen worth) with the original design of the event.
