Luminate provides various music-related sales data for the US Billboard charts. The fact that we spotlighted the growth of K-Pop itself means that K-Pop has achieved rapid growth in the global music market.
The country with the most K-Pop listening was Japan (9.7 billion). This was followed by the United States (9.2 billion), Indonesia (7.4 billion), South Korea (7.3 billion), India (6.2 billion), the Philippines (4.2 billion), and Mexico (3.5 billion won).
In Japan, the world’s largest market, it has been found that the popularity of Korean singers is led by women from Generation Z (born between 1995 and 2009).
Based on the company’s research, Luminate explains that 39.0% of Gen Z women in Japan listen to K-POP, and they are 105% more likely to listen to K-POP than the average Japanese person. .
It also released streaming data by region for the top five K-pop groups, BTS, TWICE, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, and New Jeans. All five groups had a high proportion of Asians, but there were large differences in the degree of dependence among the groups.
