The Diamond editorial department conducted a questionnaire to ask Self-Defense Forces personnel and others about their evaluation of Japan’s defense equipment in light of the increasing risk of an emergency in Taiwan.
The number of respondents doubled from 53 in the previous survey in 2017, suggesting that the sense of crisis among those involved in defense is growing stronger.
Based on the answers to the questionnaire, we created a “ranking of weapons that cannot be sold overseas”, and found that weapons that were “excessive specs” and “overpriced” as a result of optimizing for the Self-Defense Forces. Among them, there were some weapons that were pointed out to have a fatal flaw of “not suitable for actual combat”.
